vtiger 5.0.4 RC has been released!

We are happy to announce the availability of vtigercrm-5.0.4-RC today.

Our major focus was to provide UTF-8 support, fix security issues and few feature enhancements.

We request our community to test UTF-8 support with different languages and report issues to us at the earliest.

For vtigercrm-5.0.4 GA we will be addressing the critical and major issues that are reported in this RC Build.

We are looking forward for your feedback.

Looks great I am looking forward to using it in production since sugarcrm 5.0 fiasco I am very impressed with the features this product has. When do you think the bug with the email boxes will be fixed as it is kind of anoyin to have to scroll down for no reason!

This looks like a full install to me not a patch.
Have i got the right thing?

If i follow the instructions and copy all the files into my webroot i’ll be writing over my config.inc.php which will lose all my settings.

I feel i must be missing something but i’m not sure what.

Hi Robert,

Glad to know about your interest in using vtigerCRM 5.0.4 RC immediately for your sales. However though there will not be major changes between 5.0.4 RC and 5.0.4 GA we suggest not use the RC build in production.

(RC)Release Candidate is mainly released to make the community aware of the look and feel, features, fixes available in the forthcoming release 5.0.4 GA and to also get the feedbacks for the same, so that further fine tuning can be done in the final release build based on the user inputs.

I think you have a unique opportunity at vTiger. The lastest release of SugarCRM 5 was release a few weeks ago and many users are angry as it has many problems. Your new build has a lot of great features and is really complete as they hold back features. If you were to get the GA out soon you would probably win alot of there users. Keep up the good word this product is great!

Hi Eugene,

We are using tcpdf to generate Reports PDF which supports UTF-8.

Some of the inventory (Quotes, Sales Order, Purchase order, Invocei) PDF output does not support UTF-8 because we are using fpdf library.

We will address this issue in our next release. Kindly bear with us.

The testing so far shows that everything is working, especially the email part.
Here is a pdf file with screenshots of Ligttpd running very efficiently VtigerCRM, SugarCRM and Moodle simultaneously…

As far as I can tell, vTiger still does not natively support LDAP authentication for users. However, with the patch that is floating about, it is probably not a HUGE job to get it working with LDAP. I am actually going to try setting up LDAP with my install.

Please change your sql_mode to empty or else you will face this issue , I hope the previous version will also not work on this environment.
Please make it null and check whether this works fine and get back to us for more information.

We’ve got LDAP authentication working on vTiger. There are two unfortunate shortcomings:

1) vTiger only supports ONE authentication method at a time, so it’s EITHER LDAP/AD OR SQL, not both. We have hacked away at the code to include a username exception list which still authenticates with SQL.

2) vTiger only authenticates with LDAP/AD, nothing else. You have to create the user in vTiger first, and set up the user’s role, etc… it will not retrieve any information from the LDAP directory.

Once we have a HOWTO document prepared, I can provide a link for it if people are interested.

OK… I have made a lot of test…

All my “french” language was fixed in must module.
The only display “bug” I get is:

1) In Invoice, Quotes module, etc. Export to PDF doesn’t support UTF-8 (but I know dev’s know that !)

2) In Mail (web mail) module:

2a) Mistake in language… Some place was good but other place was bad… Like “from name” was not support UTF-8 show bad characters). But Object was OK… AND text zone was bad to… French characters was changed whit bad characters…

2b) If you have a lot of IMAP sub folder you need To scroll down… Scroll down… Scroll down again to see the text zone of a selected message !!!!!!!

3) Firefox and Outlook plugin works !!!

But it’s really better then before… Now I can think to start to use it… witout webmail…

I have problems with the universal search. It does not work - finds no records… white screen. It is probably a problem in the code. I applied the patch 5.0.3 patch1…

This happens if you are using PHP 4.x, throwing exceptions is not supported but we are doing it in PearDatabase class. This change was added recently.

You have to upgrade PHP installation to 5.x

my vtiger 5.0.4 rc is working smoothly now; I’m really happy!!!!
With great support by the vtiger team and my hoster! Problems were: my hosted webspace was running on PHP 4.4.1 instead of 5.x and max_exec_time in the php.ini was set much too low.

Hi,

I’ve a problem with the lead conversion using 5.0.4 version.

After a leads import, I select a lead and I make the conversion:
the account is created but it doesn’t appear in the accounts’s list. Then, if I open the account profile through the contact’s link and edit and save the account name (also save without edit), the same account appear also in the accounts’s list..

What can I do?

Hello,

I’m a new French user of Vtiger and I’m doing some tests in order to see if thsi product can be a good one for our company.
I’ve installed the v5.0.4 RC on a distant server, and it seems to work.
But I’ve got some problems with the Office, Firefox and Thunderbird plugin.
I’ve installed in my computer thes 3 plugins in 5.0.4 version, but each time I try to connet to my vtiger server, I’ve got this message: ‘your Thunderbird plugin 5.0.4 is not compatible with your vtiger server’.
Is it normal ? Should I download v5.0.4RC plugins (I didn’t find them)?

Yes, you need to download the v5.0.4 RC version of plugins that are compatible with v5.0.4 RC CRM.

Older versions of plugins are not compatible with the v5.0.4 RC version of CRM.

1) why is the default status of a quote= accepted?
Shouldn’t this be rather created instead? (This is if i do not manually change this setting before saving a quote).

2) why can I add a to do, but not an event to a quote? In other entities, i can add both types of activities. In quotes, the add event button is missing.

Well I must admit that we’re totally lost as our installation never worked thru our providers, mistake seem to be the same as explained in many page of the forum.

Admin/admin simply do not log into:

RC1 looks good…fixes a bunch of the performance problems in 503 with regard to linking products to accounts, and also fixes the Event formatting.

I did note however an issue that is most likely related to the new Picklist / Role feature. After the conversion, some of my custom picklists now have “Not Accessible” in the data field. I have noted that this occurs where items have been removed from the picklist field master but the old data still resides in the database. Can this be fixed prior to GA?

Can you please share more details on the migration issue?

* Which version did you migrate from?
* Was the problem with custom picklist or standard picklist?

If you can send us you database dump for further analysis, that can help us too.

Hi Arthur,

We have added new language strings in 5.0.4RC that might not be available in older language packs. However, 5.0.3 language pack should work without much problem for 5.0.4RC as well.

Hi Marco,

Kindly ensure that it is not present in the All custom view i.e., goto your accounts list view and change your custom view (Filters to ALL and make sure that the account is not present.

filter option is not the problem (it’s set to ALL)..
I’ve done others tests and sometimes it’s ok, sometimes it’s ko :-)..

Probably it’s depends from some wrong character…??

We installed the 504rc and played with it. But we think we might have encountered a bug while using “Campaigns” module.
1) Select a campaign and load a contact list.
2) Select a contact, click “Send Mail” and then email editor that opens up should be closed without sending an email. Repeat this with different contacts a few times.
3) You will notice that each time the email editor opens up, it has a list of addresses in the “TO” box which were selected earlier but not sent.
4) So I guess VTiger is not clearing the cache when you close the email editor. It retains the addresses.

Can anyone else confirm this issue.

Hello vtigers,

I can’t get the Word (Office) plug-in running with SSL connection. Error message is: “Vtiger CRM Word Plug-in cannot connect to the server”. I’m running 5.0.4 RC and the 5.0.4 RC plug-in.
No such problems with Outlook plug-in and SSL connection… wondering what this can be? It’s not the firewall.

Hi Jom,

We have closed many of the blocker, critical & major issues that was open after the RC release.

UTF-8 support for inventory PDF’s was integrated few days back. At present we have planned for a round of thorough validation again to make sure the product is stable.

We are positive to have the release out in few weeks time from now. We can provide the estimate only after seeing the result of validation

Hi folks!

Aaaarggh, another release candidate :-(. Great product, great evolution, no question. BUT: Pleeeeeeeeease, never talk about release dates and versions again. Better stick with “it is ready when it is ready”, otherwise you create anticipation and people start planning their own deployments/deployment evolution based on it as I did.

There is my last issue founded:

1) To fix my Webmail charset bug I needed to comments this 2 line in Webmail.php in section function load_mail($attach_tab):

//$body = ($body_converted===FALSE) ? $body : $body_converted;

//$tmpvar[’charset’] = ($body_converted===FALSE) ? $body_charset : $GLOBALS[’charset’];

2) Second issue is in Webmail the “from” line dosen’t show sender’s name UTF-8 charset correctly

Hi MTC,

We have made several core changes in the product and do not want to rush out with release unless some critical or major issue is fixed.

We are currently performing the validation on the product along with plug ins. After this we will prioritize the tickets in trac to be fixed before GA release.

Not all bugs will be addressed, some are even enhancement issues which will be taken up for later releases.

Hi dev’s,
related to the webmail - utf-8 coding from german umlaute: The same problems like in the french language, only that the commenting out of some code in the webmails.php does not work on the windows platform.

I will test it on a linux platform also, because in the past some differences occurred on both platforms with the same configuration (mysql5, php5, Apache2)

More Testing on german umlaute soon.
