Its nearly 2 months since the release of vtiger CRM 5.0.4. We appreciate the positive response from the vtiger community, which has been very encouraging to the team.
We are glad to see the product downloads growing, with over 1000 downloads every day on average.

Some users faced initial hiccups with installation and migration of vtiger CRM 5.0.4. Most of these issues were caused due to incorrect MySQL configuration (specially, sql-mode=’STRICT_TRANS_TABLE..’) or wrong PHP configuration. Relatively few serious issues have been reported since the release.

The forum discussions have been more often on missing product features, rather than issues in the product.

We recognize the need to keep moving forward aggressively with new features. Development is already underway on the next release.
Our development team is making good progress towards the next milestone. We will keep you posted on the next release shortly.

    Hi Vitger-team,

I can agree, 5.0.4 is running smoothly on my hoster for weeks now. I’m really happy with the product! It’s fun every day and really helps us doing our business! And I also saw the post of issues going down, that’ great!
I also know, that there is always room for improvement… one of the major things for me would be to UNCOUPLE persons and organisations.
I think that the vast majority of vtiger users is also having B2C business maybe besides B2B. For B2C business your customer is just and only one person (=contact).

Thanks for your more than great support and power to drive the product forward.
    Bye,

I am very happy with the 5.0.4 release. It is working very well and has took vtiger closer to it’s goal. With it’s faults, it is a very good product.
Although there are many things that you can add to the next release the only thing I would like to ask for is to not have to translate the customer portal again. PLEASE before starting any development on the Customer Portal have a look at the work we have done translating. We have only eliminated the hard coded strings and added language selection. There is no change in functionality so you could easily update and start your improvements from there.

    Thanks for your hard work.

    Dear Vtiger team,

I would ask you if you have plans to change the system of the generation of PDF documents?

At the moment is very difficult to make some changes in the PDF documents.

There is an idea to use html templates (created with an external html editor), to fill them and to convert in PDF format.
What do you think about this idea?

    regards,
    Ilko

    Hi llko,

We have taken down it on our issue tracker as enhancement.

We would be happy to get any code contribution from community to faster the development time.

    Hi Vtiger Team,

We also value all the hard work done in Vtiger so far. We have it running on our severs for a couple of weeks and we are very happy with it.

I really agree with llko : an html based invoice template generation would be a great improvement for the product.

Something else is very important : being able to just plug a module in Vtiger just as we do it in Joomla.

Thank you again for 5.0.4, and we are looking forward to the next release.

I strongly believe that vTiger is the best opensource CRM.

I am using it exclusively for the operation of my company.

I only have one error problem to date, hope you can help me solve it.

    Here is the error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagettfbbox() in /home/theo949/public_html/crm/Image/Canvas/GD.php on line 1307

    Keep up the good work

I like vtiger very much. New features would be nice - but I don’t miss one at the moment.

utf-8 integration ist still an issue. Or is this only a German problem? I don’t like changing the vtiger-code every upgrade to get/keep the german umlauts running.

How is the progress on this issue?

vtiger 5.0.4 is great product. So far,it runs well. I only saw one error message when searching for open ticket using advanced search. If the community can add the project module to the system, then vtiger will have almost all features that sugarcrm has. Most CRM users need to create projects and assign those projects to accounts, contacts, users, etc.

Hi, thanks for your great product but there is still an important issue about assigning tasks and event.

Why my team can not assign task to somebody else in my organisation?

    I don’t get it.

Please react it is a big problem :

    All the Best,

    Fred

I’m a big fan of tiger. Our organisation was using ACT! but after we got to a few thousand client records it starting have synchronisation issues.

Our tiger system has over 5,000 client records and is working fine. We have been using since May 07.

BUT we’ve had lots of problems with 5.0.4. If I could I wish I could downgrade to 5.0.3. I really hope these problems will be addressed in the next release.

The biggest problem for us is updating custom picklists. This just doesn’t work in 504 at all! We have a lot of custom fields with drop down lists. When we go to the custom field edited to add more values to the drop down list, the drop down list never shows the new values.

The other problem is not critical, just annoying. Under the second page for ‘contacts’, there is a history listing under ‘Attachments’. We use this extensively to keep notes of all client dealings and discussions. In 504 the dates are no longer properly sorted in order.

    Lastly, two requests:
    1. We use tiger to service individual (public) clients who we provide services to. It is a hassle for us to have to have most of the functions based around accounts, rather than a contact. All our services are provided directly to the person (contact), we don’t have any accounts. It would be great to have the option to bypass accounts and have the functions linked to contacts.

    2. Our products are services and tiger is built around physical products only. This makes it hard to use the invoicing etc as it expects the products to be items with a finite number in the inventory. Please consider allowing services (could be $/hr or units of service) which do not decrease inventory counts etc. like physical products.

    Hello james,

same here, I’m also a really big fan of vtiger.

I post here because I want to assist you editing custom piclists. I was facing exactly the same problem as you do, but was able to solve it. NO need to go back to 5.0.3…

Please try this and give feedback:
Log in using “US English” (IMPORTANT! the original installed language, not any other language) then go to the settings menue and choose “Picklist Editor” change to the desired values as described here: http://www.vtiger.com/blogs/2008/04/16/role-based-picklists-in-504/

And I more than agree with our first request, I also would like more B2C functionality.

    Bye,
    TOm

Yes 5.0.4 is great and we are starting to use it for real-life work on our accounts/contacts. But it will be nice to get 3 things sorted out in next release

1- Search via tags and once tagged items such as Contacts are listed, to be able to select individual items or not

2- Bulk email - there needs to be an option to select all contacts - say 2,000 - in a view without having to have all of them displayed on the same page. The current system requires one to select all contacts shown on Page1, to mail these, then go to Page 2, mail those and so on. This is very arduous

3- To provide an indication of how many emails have been sent as of now and to give an indication of how many were actually sent out in total at the end of the bulk mail process

4- To incorporate campaign stats in terms of opens, clicks etc.

Greetings, VTiger Team. I am looking for a detailed process document for moving VTiger 5.0.4 from one computer to another. I am running on my laptop now and want to migrate to a Windows 2000 server so my office can use it. It’s already installed on the server, I just need to know how to migrate the data.

    Thanks,

    Hi, Asha,

Thanks for the quick reply. One challenge I am having is that there is no database name. I run MYSQL STATUS and the “current database” is blank. Any thoughts?

    Dear WineLover80538,

To check your vtiger database name.

    Please follow these steps.

    1) Go to vtiger source directory (C:\Program Files\vtigercrm5\apache\htdocs\vtigerCRM) and open config.inc.php search for $dbconfig[’db_name’] line number : 50

    2) use this forum post to complete the migration.

    Varma and all,

Thanks for the quick replies. I have another question: Is there an easy way to export and import information? I was trying the migration and the permissions did not transfer over to the new server. So I’m starting over and I want to export the data from the old server and import is to the new server. Any help would be appreciated.
