When will 5.1 version be released?

It has been a few weeks since we last posted about the 5.1 progress. Today, we updated our demo site with the latest development build (more details below). In the last few weeks, we had to slow down on 5.1 because of some customer commitments. On the bright side, that means we have more enhancements coming into 5.1!

What’s next?
We still have a few weeks of development work in 5.1 including on Asterisk integration, web services API, mobile client, ..etc. After that, we will freeze the code and continue validation for a couple of months. So, while we are not at a point where we can provide a date for the final release, we are definitely making progress towards that!

There are two ways you can test the build:
1. Try it out directly on demo server.
2. Checkout the source from SVN and setup on your local server for testing.
Note: Please make sure you do not use it for production.

Any suggestions on how to include AppDev into the process automation lifecycle? Service is one area for sure, but we might like to see AppDev broken out into its own area.

I checked the demo 5.1, specially about “Mailing Quote, SO, PO PDF directly similar to Invoice PDF” and I founded some parts that for sure could be better:
1) The email go with sender name “Administrator” and from point of view of branding and of the custom message don’t look to be the best, (I searched in settings section, but I don’t have founded where change this sender name)
2) Anytime I send a pdf attached he ask me where to send it (which accounts, contacts or leads), but to me look normal that in more of 99% of cases the quotation or invoice be default need to go to the reality for who it is being done, so it look not useful to ask to who send these, when instead i loose time and I risk to do mistakes by hand..
3) When asking to who send email, in the list of leads, contacts and accounts there are in demo and there could be in real many of them without email, so why a show them without email if i can’t add email and they are unuseuful to send email? I think it will be better to filter them leads, contacts and accounts, for these that only have email.

I would like to connect my website to customer portal, in this way any client, or potential client can find him quotes and invoices, in comfortable way online on him control panel, but here born to me a dubt about the project of vtiger, maybe I missed something, beacause at the end I found these problems:
1) I receive dozens of ask for quotation any day trough webforms, and in this way i create an account, because only to accounts I can do quotation, and in this way I work more quickly, and I’m using this trick with all: private people and companies
2) to use Customr Portal instead I’m obligated to connect it to the contacts of vtiger, and i can’t use accounts, obligating me to copy the same data by hand or automatically, from accounts to contacts, creating a double list of the same people-companies, to can use customer portal
At the end, I’m wrong in something to project my vtiger to send quotations and invoices, or on vtiger 5.1 someone can get it more elastic-easy to use?
why was created these limitations on vtiger?

Out customerportal enhancement is still not complete. The actual feature we are aiming for is to show all the Trouble tickets/Products/Quotes/Invoice/Documents etc, that are related to either the Account or any Contact of that Account to which the logged in Contact belongs to. I think this should solve your problem of accessing the data related to the Account and not to any specific Contact.

It would be nice if any improvements in email module were made. For example, main page I would recommend to do like zenbe.com or gmail.com do with fast opening message in new window and go back (ajax). Do you have any steps in this direction?
If vtiger has the same feature it could replace gmail at all.

it is normal that in demo of 5.1 login and password in template email are not encoded ? they appear in this way in my gmail account:

How do you want us to report bugs related to these enhancements? I would suggest you add a new version “5.1.0 val” to the bug tracker.

i think that in addition to the bug tracker version a dedicated subforum (or at very least a well visible thread) could be a wise option, since i know of some users/tester willing to help but feeling much more comfortable while posting on the forum than dealing with a trac account

I respect your suggestions. I understand the requirement for a common place to report the issues. But we are still in development phase and we will have wip updates continuously for next few weeks. Along with feature integration, we are also fixing the issues parallely.
Give us a 2-3 weeks of time to tag the branch for initial validation. After that it would be easy for you to report issues and for us to track them.

Congratulations on the great enhancements in the Customer Portal.
In many industries (including financial advisory and investments) it is beneficial to allow customers to update certain fields of their contact and account details via a customer portal.
Do you plan to add a possibility for the contacts to update their details on their own, via the customer portal?

Quotes/Sales Orders snapshots on any kind of edit is a must still missing.
Accepted quotes shouldn´t be editables, even less if theres a SO / invoice related.

I tried to use vtiger 5.1 and portal customers.
The new portal and vtiger 5.1 are fantastic!
I have noticed that there are errors mainly ideological.
1 - The portal is running customers access to contact, but in reality would be more access opprtuno run at farm level (Account). This is because often in a company, many contacts have identical needs. You should also take into account that the section on the portal bills devrebbe be invisible to some accounts because they do not all have to see it. The password may be in the account and no contact since it is useless to me to have many needs the same password for the company. Last suggestion on: passwords should be decided by and not sent out because, for example, in my case, customers do not take into account the email or delete and then I do not know how to make them more access to the portal; I could also decide if the password, use a password that can connect to other subscribers or their access (login - password) other services on their web
2 - should be implemented a version of TTimecards, because many are using it and it is time that this feature was added to all

I see that in quotes, orders and invoices, is showed the product code, but then in products edit page, it is called Part number, and not for all users this is easy to understand, why not use the same name in both, web and pdf view?
Just looked over the 5.1 and noticed that the same way of the list view is still there. It could be considered as a BUG.
Just open a list of accounts:
1. When you see an account with a long name - it’s string truncated somewhere in the middle of the available area - leaving a lot of space unused.
2. additionally - if you enter name of account on the different language - my case is RUSSIAN - it’s incorrectly truncated - leaving improper character at the end of the string.
this should be very easy to fix.

I use vtiger 5.04 for several months and I have added many fields within the various modules. In the new version of vtiger 5.1 fields can be incorporated into new blocks and this is a beautiful thing. But I would like to know if at the time of my areas where these will be included? I hope that because I do not go all in a single block. I noticed that you can not move from one field to another block in the single module. This in my opinion, aandrebbe added because if I wanted to put a block under the “account information” and then want to move in “account address” this is not possible.

Initially when you will migrate from 5.0.4 to 5.1.0, all your fields will be in the same block where you have added them.
But with the new feature we have provided, you can create new blocks and also can moved the fields across blocks.
I am not sure what are you looking for. Hope what I said is what you are aiming for. Let me know if you requirement is different.

The new version of customerportal will not work with 5.0.4. It will be compatible only with 5.1.0. The instructions for installation will still remain the same. Please wait till the release to use the new version of customer portal.

Some things I’d like to see added to the customerportal would be an acl list not everyone logging in the portal should have read and write access. A simple aACL for the primary of the account would be perfect.
A primary person on the account who can be the acl owner defaulted to the first person listed (created?) in an account.

An interface to the language document via the settings tab. That would allow a non dev person to customize certain terms to the business they are in. for instance renaming sales orders to service orders. Or Updation to update.
would it be possible to make the removal of products from the customer portal easier, it would be kind of cool to have an option on each product page that said something like “Allow on cutomer portal”.
we only have 3 products that we want visible to our customers, from over the 300 that we have in the database, at present we have to code the CP to show no products at all.
this would be a fantastic feature for your new version.

I hope in vtiger 5.1 will be the possibility to change the login session timeout, it is very little and often people receive a phone call of some minutes and when come back on vtiger if not save data loose all:

We updated our 5.1 demo to the latest SVN rev. (12125) and spent some time to update the German language files also. It seems that there are many i18n issues left with the new functions, see https://vtigercrm510.at.crm-now.de/

know that vtiger 5.1 is in beta at the moment, but i think i have found a
potensionally big security issue with the system in the customer portal.
if you log into the c/p the address bar is not encrypted and shows the account id ain the url, changing the id number gives you access to other account holders, this would allow any customer to view any other customers details.
i hope this is wrong would somebody else please check my findings as this you render the application useless to us in the uk

Hello everyone,
for some months is that I am using vtiger (crm version village), and some questions have to do in this active community. Smile
I state that I found difficult to use coarse enough for a program crm, especially at that point, but I tried to manage the conceptual differences and limitations with alternative “management”.
- A flaw is found it impossible to link the custom fields between the various modules, so that, for example the “subscription type” equal to or on, contacts in business and orders. Obviously if you put hand to the code, the change would be possible, but this would involve a lot of time and testing and the loss of changes when you update version …. right?
- Another shortcoming is the inability to be able to connect someone to more companies. This is handy in case of plurimandatari or personal representatives of a company but at the same time also a partner or employee of another.
- Then you ask to explain what the “State” in the Contact form. I do not understand what its purpose, and I probably would be useful to use.
- The types of custom fields would also be handy to have a “container” where it would be possible to include multimedia objects such as photos, videos or songs. It would be convenient to have an image of the company, for example, or video-related product (the maximum would be a video in flash).
- The creation of new forms in my opinion should be easier, without putting their hands to the code, Salesforce allows it to do already three years with a convenient wizard is fantastic.
These points do not want to be the controversy, but I would encourage programmers to improve software that already worth much and will continue to use because we believe very much.

What about the reports? Any updates on whether or not the user can choose which modules to connect for custom report generation? I would like to see a report option that allows products and invoices to be related, that way monthly revenue by invoice and product type can be summarized.

Please don’t forget to fix these bugs:
1. Real UTF-8 support in the mail
2. ‘Qualify’ button must find corresponding contact, do not create the new one
3. Any customization tools for pdf invoices. Really cool feature, but must be improved. At least, it must be simple possibility to remove 2d page from invoice and make output of company logo with better quality (if it could be embedded vector graphic file it would be the best)

in the past we migrated a couple hundred vtiger systems from one version to another. From experience I can tell you that it is not a good idea to skip a version and to upgrade from 5.0.3 to 5.1. even if vtiger would offer such an option. Such option was offered in the past but I do not know whether this will be the case with v5.1. You will have significantly less trouble if you now upgrade to 5.0.4 and later to 5.1.
My advise does not mean that such a migration as offered from vtiger is faulty. On the contrary, in most cases the migration works well. However, your vtiger system may have conditions which are not covered by the code and which could produce some errors to get repaired manually.

Outlook plugin does not work with 2007. I tried it but to no avail (when teh CRM is hosted on the internet)
However, the same addin worked when the vtger was installed on localhost.
Where is teh problem? Now it says, “your outlook plugin is not compatible with your vtiger version”
