What is vtiger CRM Extentions?

vtiger CRM Extensions is a marketplace for free and commercial vtiger CRM add-ons.  It's purpose is to make it easy for vtiger CRM users to find, install, and use extensions for their vtiger CRM installations.

How do vtiger CRM users install these extensions?

Users find and download the desired extension, then use one of two ways to install the extension.

  • Use the Module Manager tool to directly install the extension from the downloaded file, for all extensions that support Module Manager .   For vtiger CRM 5.0.4, the Module Manager is not included in the base installation and you need to download and install the vtlib Extension first.
  • For other extensions you will need to follow the specific installation instructions provided by the publisher of the extension.

Do I need administrator privileges on my vtiger CRM system to install these extensions?

Yes, in most cases.  The Module Manager tool is only available to vtiger CRM users with administrator privileges, and many extensions must use Module Manager.  Extensions that do not use Module Manager typically require administrator access as well.

Are third-party Extensions listed in the marketplace verified or certified by the vtiger Team?

All third-party extensions are provided by the publisher and are currently not verified or certified by the vtiger Team.  Please use caution and test  extensions before deployment on your production servers, most importantly in the case of new extensions not widely used by the vtiger community.

Who can publish on vtiger CRM Extensions?

Any provider of vtiger CRM extensions, i.e. both open-source and commercial providers, may list their products in the vtiger CRM Extensions marketplace. The vtiger Team reserves the right to deny publication of any extension that it deems unhelpful to the vtiger CRM user community.

Is there a fee to publish extensions in vtiger CRM Extensions?

There will be no fee for listing free vtiger CRM extensions in the vtiger CRM Extensions marketplace.

For commercial extensions that are not free to vtiger CRM users, there is currently no fee and vendors are encouraged to list their extensions at no charge.  Please note that the vtiger Team plans to charge a referral or transaction fee for commercial extensions after a few months.

Are there any naming guidelines for my vtiger Extension?

All vtiger CRM extensions listed in the marketplace should use the following naming guidelines. Extension names should not use vtiger in the name, except as a qualifier at the end, i.e. "for vtiger CRM."  Extension names should not include "Edition" in the name, to prevent user confusion with an edition of vtiger CRM.

How do I publish my extension on vtiger CRM Extensions?

To publish your extension you must first register at the Extensions marketplace.  You will then be able to use the Add New Item link to submit your extension for listing in the marketplace.  Submissions are subject to approval by the admiistrator before they are published.  Please fill in the requested information as completely as possible to speed up the approval process.

The easiest way for potential users to install your extension is to use Module Manager.  We recommend making your extension compatible with Module Manager if possible.

How do I make my extension compatible with Module Manager?

The vtlib package is a development library designed to help develop extensions and package them for use with Module Manager, which is included with vtlib.  Please download vtlib and use it to create your extension module, and use that module to develop and package your extension.

For existing extensions that you have already developed, you may be able to use the vtlib generated module to wrap your extension and thus package it for Module Manager installation.  However, for many existing extensions this may not be possible. Please try vtlib to see if such an approach is possible.
