Unleash Limitless Automation with Server-Side Scripting

Vtiger Cloud CRM now offers Server-Side Scripting, a powerful capability previously available only in our open-source edition. This enhancement combines the strengths of customizability with the ease of use and scalability of a cloud-based CRM solution.

The biggest reason to use open-source applications, such as Vtiger’s Open Source CRM, is that the source code is available to you, and you can modify it according to your business needs. With closed-source proprietary applications, since the source code is not available to change, businesses are limited to the functionality provided by the vendor.

Three years ago, we launched Vtiger’s Application Platform (VTAP), a low-code automation framework, to help businesses further customize their Vtiger CRM instance. With VTAP, developers can write client-side code that runs within the user’s browser. This enables client-side customization. Business users can also create custom APIs by defining parameters in the XML format. 

However, there are many scenarios where the custom code will need to run on the CRM server and not the client. For example, one of our customers using Vtiger One for Invoicing asked for the following - each line item in the invoice should have an ID that is unique across all invoices. To do this, one has to store the previous ID value (in the database/file) and then generate the next ID and assign it for each new line item in the new invoice or edited invoice. 

With the Server Scripts and Jobs Add-on, customers and partners can also directly run custom code written in JavaScript notation on Vtiger servers. Earlier, to have your code run on Vtiger servers, you had to publish it via the marketplace, which required a review by a Vtiger developer. With the new Server-side scripting feature, you no longer need to submit the code for Vtiger’s review.  

Server Scripts pave the way for unlimited automation possibilities. Here are some examples:

  • Enrich your contact information by fetching information from another source (for example, credit score for a loan applicant), 
  • Update certain values based on data from related records (outstanding balance for an organization), or, 
  • Do custom validation for field values.

You can also write scripts and schedule them to run at a specific time or frequency (we call them Server Jobs). For example, you can write a script to FTP to a server to fetch a CSV file and import data or write a script to send data to a data warehouse.

If you do, you can integrate the Instamojo gateway with Vtiger CRM and manage payments from the CRM itself.

You can choose the payment type from the Payment Configuration page, like Razorpay and Stripe. Send the payment link to your customers via email, which they can use to make payments using Instamojo.
