Came across vtiger-based project in one of the popular freelance portals:

Project Description:

Project: vTiger + Quickbooks
This will be an ongoing project to develop tight integration between Drupal, vTiger, and Quickbooks. But the first phase for the project is to develop a way to get invoices and associated data from vTiger into Quickbooks.

Bidding rates
(Provided by freelance developers)

  • Developer “A” – 10 days ($200)
  • Developer “B” – 10 days ($400)
  • Developer “C” – 12 days ($450)

To the best of my knowledge, it may not be possible to meet these deadlines (integration of vtiger, drupal, and QuickBooks in 10 to 12 days), unless these developers have successfully completed this kind of projects earlier  and they have a ready-made solution (PS: Personally I don’t have any issues with their billing rates).

Why this post?

Of late, I’ve received some service requests from our business community in which development was stopped half-way due to believing false promises made by these developers. Finally they were unable to meet deadlines as promised. In some cases, business community lost their valuable earnings also. After a bad experience with these developers, now they are reviewing complete project requirements with our team.

I just want to alert our end-user community not to get entrapped with this kind of false promises. Before signing any deals with the so-called freelance developers, please feel free to check with vtiger team (drop a mail at services at vtiger dot com) or at least make an announcement in vtiger forums under General Discussions, so that you will receive a genuine advice from us. By the way, I don’t suspect skill-set of freelance developers; they are fast, cheaper and sometimes offer better services. However, please consider your scope of the project requirements, on-going deployment support, scalability, performance, and upgrade/migration requirements before commencement of the service.

Please do share your experiences.
