I think the title should have been – ‘Future Is Plugins’ but never mind …
The Outlook, Thunderbird and Word Plugins are nearing perfection now. What you all see now, is a very basic version of the plugins. The Plugins are of enormous use and usage and to my mind, are an entire market to themselves. These plugins make life simple for those who are using the ‘Parent’ products ie Outlook Mail Client etc.
As of now, we are providing basic sycing and conflict resolution. But, I am sure, if we really sit and analyze the entire gamut of operations that can be done, we will have enuf for a year or so. We invite people to work on the plugins and develop with us so that we can share our load. We also need the experience of the community in this regard. We do concede that we are mere developers wrt the power-users of the Parents but we need the Parent-users to tell us what exactly do they need.
Evolution Plugin is a widely stated demand which will further increase the breadth of tools provided.
We need to provide more depth in functionality. Once we get multiple guys to work with Jerry on the plugins, I am sure we will have a very high uptake of the plugins as the pooling of minds will make a better product.
vtiger plugins should be the bridge between vtiger and other products ex osCommerce, dotProject, etc. These projects are specialized in their behaviour, vtiger does not specialize in those areas. So, by building a bridge between these two, one gets to avail the best of both the worlds.
We will ensure that the plugin source this time is made properly available. We invite developers to work on these plugins to further enhance them and make them suitable for a wide variety of projects/products.
