Will The Real Open Source CRM Please Stand Up?

There is this really interesting debate going on in techmeme which I am linking here.

The debate starts with defining the problem with the OSI’s lack of stern-ness in action resulting in the mis-use of the term ‘Open Source’. This is more so in  the case of CRM as there are plenty of players already in it and the article states that the easiest way is to get in using the term ‘Open Source’.

vtiger is a completely classical Open Source product in the sense that we do not bind anyone to anything. You download the product, you have the code, you use it, you do whatever you want to do with it and you keep it, you do not have to yell that it is powered by vtiger or something.

vtiger is 100% honest open source.

Now, vtiger also intends to be the 100% honest milliondollar open source. Everyone should prosper – you should prosper, I should prosper, all should prosper. This will happen if we play together as a team in the spirit of open source.

In my Europe trip, there was an example given to me of vtiger being something like a Resting House which is free for occupation and use. Anyone can come and stay in it, take rest for whatever amount of time, use any resource required and leave at anytime to come back anytime again. Certainly this can be done. If the guest leaves out something for others so that the guys who come after him can live more cozily then great! that is the spirit of open source.

This is fine in the legal sense. But we should make vtiger and the vtiger users too to achieve their end objective in life that is to live happily.

Let us share our development effort, let us make money on what we do and let us pool it back into the trunk so that we grow together.

Let us make Open Source into Prosperous Open Source. I am sure that once we have that on, we will have a far more greater crowd than the commercial users lot!

vtiger will stand for the Real Open Source CRM. We believe in it! Come be a part of this community!
