Vtiger CRM 5.1.0 - 1st validation build

Today, we are announcing the release of the first validation build forthe 5.1 release.This build is intended for seeking feedback from community members and to identify and fix issues before the final release. Developers intending to develop on 5.1 can start developing on the validation build and make use of the Web Service APIs and the vtlib module creation libraries and report issues.
Please do not use the 5.1 validation build on your production servers
Open issues with 5.1.0 are accessible at http://trac.vtiger.com
Reporting Issues:
1. Login to trac.vtiger.com (To get access to trac.vtiger.com, please email info@vtiger.com.)
2. Set Milestone to 5.1.0, Version to 5.1.0-val1.
3. Set appropriate Priority.
4. Provide a clear description of the issue.
Steps to the 5.1 Release
We will release another validation build (VB2) after fixing some of the issues reported during the first validation cycle. Based on the feedback on VB2, we may need another validation build or go directly to Release candidate. The final release can be expected a few weeks after Release candidate.

Have a question.
Previous 5.0.4 source package size was about 13Mb but the new one is about 22Mb. Is that all code added? Or just cache files from SVN?

Our source package doesn’t contain SVN files or any other cache files. So the change in the size is mainly the size of the files and directories added to the product.

This kind of errors have been produced with versions since SVN12347.
I got vTiger installed successfully until SVN12346.

everything looks great, new portal is fantastic, 1 problem i have found, if i create a recurring invoice, when its saved all the dates from the recurring part are removed, only the tick box is still selected, if i edit the same sales order there is no date information held in the recurring section, all the other information is still present

This is regarding the Feature_List page in wiki. I don’t understand why the PDFs are hosted on a Wiki. It may be nice if the URL to the individual features points to a Wiki Article instead of the PDF documents.
It may also be nice if people could post questions/issues in the bug tracker or forum instead of adding as a comment here.
I observed the folowing strange behavior: When I do a sync with a fresh installed Outlook plugin I get all the contacts from the CRM. But I had duplicates at the CRM. So I went back to the CRM and used the new function to merge duplicates. Then I did another sync with Outlook. After that the just deleted duplicates got restored at the CRM. What did I wrong?

Thank you for this! So is it correct to assume that new features have been frozen? I am very excited about this release, but it has taken quite a bit longer than anticipated.
Please don’t take this as a criticism, but it seems like many of the open source projects that have really been able to distinguish themselves have adhered to a regular schedule of planned smaller releases rather than one huge one. I realize that the codebase doesn’t make this easy, but actually getting 5.1 out the door and released is very important to us in the community.
With that said, are there specific areas where we could help? Particular functions that need extra testing, etc?

They didn’t install with the rest of the package although I checked all the boxes. Did I miss something or are they just not ready yet?

Webforms have no UI, so they don’t show up the client, but should be present in the modules/Webforms directory.

Works OK but as an interface it could be smoother.
The three step process is archaic and needs to be streamlined. Editing in place on the actual list would be a far better solution with only two buttons (Save and Cancel). Don’t know how feasible this is in the web environment, I’m used to developing desktop apps where state can be more tightly controlled.
If the edit and save must be a three step process then it might be more intuitive if “Apply” was used to apply the edit to the list and “Save” was used to save the changes to the table, a tooltip baloon to let the user know what each is for would go a long way to communicating what each button is for.

I completed a fresh install of 5.1 running on a hosted linux server. The install appears to have been successful, but when I log in as an administrator and click on Leads, Accounts or any item I get a graphical statement saying that I am not permitted to execuite this operation. Looking at the profile it shows that the admin has full rights. Any thoughts?
Also I just noticed that when I click on any save button nothing happens.
For installation I downloaded the source file and copied it up to the server and ran the install process. We have installed and currently use 5.0.3 and 5.0.4 using the same process.

I did a fresh install of 5.1 on Ubuntu from source and all went well.
In the webmail module I do get strange characters denoted by a ? mark, not sure why?!
during install UTF-8 was ok, also I had to cancel out these 2 lines in webmails.php in order to see full email body.

As for now 5.1.0 version of Spanish language pack is not available.
5.0.4 version of Spanish language pack doesn’t have language strings for newer modules of 5.1.0 (e.g. Services etc) so this language pack will not support newer or revamped modules.

I began to install 501 but when I got to the config confirmation page it said
Database UTF-8 Support Not Enabled
is this bad?, or can I just go ahead with the install?
the database has the same setting as the 504 database as far as I can see

i think the problem with the recurring feature on the sales orders, is related in some way to the recurring information not being passed into the database.
when i create a S/O and fill in the recurring details, then click on save, no date information is visible, when i edit the same S/O all the recurring date information is set to 00-00-0000.
i have checked in the recurring entries part of the vtiger database and no entry’s are made.
any ideas

the recurring section of the sales order works if the date is in the following format yyyy-mm-dd
if you have set the date format as dd-mm-yyyy in your preferences then the sales order recurring dates are not entered into the vtiger database,
i have checked this out also on your wip site. and it produces the same error,
but the error unexpected ‘{’ in RecurringInvoice.service on line 38 still exists

make sure you create a new database, when ask for mysql info during install.

In this Version 5.1 Install I too get the Error
I suppose this is due to php.ini DB install timeout setting default value set to 60 instead of recommended 300.So not all tables might have been created!
can you confirm the no of tables and also a Mysql Dump with Blank data or sample data as provided for 5.04

Hi,
After creating a custom field (DATE) in module Leads and trying to select a date from calendar it automatically sets the format yyyy-mm-dd (example 2009-02-27) . But when trying to save, the following error is shown:
Please enter a valid “custom name” (DATE).
So it can’t be saved like this. When changing the date manually into format m-dd-yyyy (2-27-2009) it can be saved. I noticed that this occurs also in the online environment (http://en.vtiger.com/wip).
I’ve created a custom field called “test” there.
Is this a bug or is there any solution to get this solved?

Recently, the major issue with installation has been fixed, please pick up those changes and see if the installation works smoothly.
With 5.1.0 validation build 1, there are 397 tables with demo data and 395 tables without demo data.
If admin will disable any module from Settings-> Module Manager, only then admin and non admin user can’t view that module.

But it did not show me any pop up with change of date format,can you just send us the exact test case with steps so we can try to reproduce thee issue again.

When trying to reproduce again, I noticed that when creating a new lead manually the problem does not occur.
But when adjusting an existing lead (also after import) it occurs.
recreation steps:
- http://en.vtiger.com/wip
- go to module leads
- select an existing lead
- select edit in the custom information field “test”
- click on calendar icon and select a date
- try to save

We could reproduce the issue in our local server as well as in our Demo server but in Browser IE,with my first comment at that time I was checking the same thing but in other browser where the pop up was not coming,But Thanks for Finding the issue we have reported it in our Trac you can check that by going in to following URL

HI team, I´m happy with the work done nice piece of an app you´ve got here, but……
1)I can´t believe that quotes / So snapshots didn’t make it.
There´s no trace of changes made to that docs besides status.It´s a showstopper here. I can´t ask sales team to create and attach a pdf every time a change is made(leaving aside we´re counting on good will and no one is cheating) .
2)PDF Layout: Can´t we create our own designs? I´ve been redrawing with every vtiger version . Can you please make some sort of template variables where we can create something according the Corporate Imaging of own company?

1. OK, I installed this software and first of all I was particularly interested in the webmail module I had problem with in the past, so I clicked on the welcoming email and it had the following an the top of the window:

Now I don’t have the clue how that character set got selected. Weird.
2. The issue with displaying Sent Mail has not been resolved. Guess what! I am logged in as ‘bela’ and in the Sent folder I click on ‘All Mails’ and in the list field instead on ‘Sent to’ I have ‘bela’. I know I sent that email, I don’t need to be told. Can it be anything else? Perhaps if you have multiple users, but even then you wanna see the ‘Sent to’ information there!!!
This is a major usability issue, not a minor hick-up. When you drive your car and glance at the speedometer you don’t want to see the room temperature displayed there instead of the current speed. A car like that is not suitable for driving.
At least if vTiger was customisable in that respect, but I spent some time trying to track down from where the ‘Sender’ comes from, but the code is so poorly documented and written in such a way that I did not get anywhere…
3. When I create a contact in the ‘Contact No’ field I see ‘AUTO GEN ON SAVE’, but once I save the contact I see not a number in that field, but ‘CON1′. What is the point of displaying it? First of all it is confusing because it is grouped together with the phone numbers and in some countries ‘contact no’ actually means the primary phone number. It is better to be called ‘Contact ID’ and moved above the ‘First Name’ and only displayed once the contact has been saved or when it is being edited, but not when entering
4. Click on System Details in Admin - Settings and you get:

I have seen these kind of errors in older builds also.
To be honest I have not tested other features.
If you could fix these issues for 5.1 it would be a nice product.

But a fatal error on migration still exists as bellow.My 5.04 installation has 14 vtger_cf_### tables in db.

I must be missing something in attempting the Migration install. As the instruction manual pdf is very vague in it’s direction (at least you’re consistent!) relying on pictures and assumed knowledge throughout, I’m not finding my problem addressed anywhere.
I’ve attempted the Migration install about a dozen times now, unpack, install, fill in all the blanks, read error message, repeat.
Error message is always the same: “…cannot locate database (db name)”.
I’ve tried creating 4-5 different NEW databases, letting the Migration wizard create a new db, (that definitely doesn’t work!), nothing works. Same error message. I’ve set up a hundred MySQL db’s before so I’m either doing something really stupid or the Migration Wizard is broken.
Based on what I’ve said so far, can you give me a clue as to what I’m doing wrong that keeps the setup process from being able to see teh db I just created and priviliged???
Has anyone else had an issue installing the source version of 5.1 on a 3rd party hosted environment? For some reason I constantly have an issue where it does not appear to be installing fully. It never displays the completion page. Then when I login as admin I cannot access any of the pages with out getting an error that I am not permitted. I have adjusted the max_execution_time to 900, but it does not appear to help. Looking at the DB (mysql 5.0) I have 348 tables.
I have installed it locally on windows and linux with no issues. We were able to install 5.0.4 on the hosted environment without any issues.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think this new 5.1 looks fabulous on the Demo side… but I’ve been trying to get this 5.1 build running locally with no luck…
Going forward would it be possible to have some sort of ready made appliance (Xen, VMWARE, …) so we can try these new features without the installation barrier ?

With new installed system of vTiger 5.1-val1 and customerportal, the password for customerportal user could not be changed after logging into customerportal with automatically generated password.
The error message says ‘incorrect old password’ in the ‘My Settings’ popup windows.

The error you are getting means that the vtiger server and the asterisk server are not able to communicate between themselves. Please check the configuration under Settings->Module Manager->PBXManger Settings. Make sure that the port is correct and open to the vtiger server if it is on a different system on the network.

the workflow for the help desk doesn’t seem to be working:
1) I set up a new workflow: anytime a new ticket is saved, an email should be sent out to my email address
2) I have tried a couple of times, setting up new tickets, but no emails were sent out

Hi forum, i’m testing this new version and the Asterisk PBX Module have little errors that i will send you a patch in the future, but i have another problem with the popups. I’m testing like this:
1) I put directly to the DataBase in the table of popups.
2) Some seconds after the row in the database get delete as i see in the code
3) never see the popup :-S

It look that vtiger 5.1 willt ottaly miss the advanced search, I think it could be very useful especially for professional users, having thousands of reords.
i think this is probably too late but i think its important to raise
in previous versions we have the note facility, and now this has been replaced with the documents
its very important with a record like a contact to have a way to have notes that are date/time stamped to keep a record of things.. for example if a customer informs us of something, or we take an action.. all these things need to be recorded and the date/time recorded. we have used notes to do this as there was no other proper way to do this. now that notes have disappeared, whats the proposal for adding notes like this to a contact ?
its very important for a business to have these kinds of records, to know whats happened when, whats been said, etc… especially for a legal oriented business like ours

We have been eagerly awaiting this build. Unfortunately however after trying for 2 days on both Windows and Linux machines we have been unable to get the build to work.
On Windows, the migration over our previous 5.04 installation claims that it has completed successfully but creates only 8 tables in the new database instance.
On Linux, the migration errors out with a query error and displays a bunch of HTML in a dialog box.
On both machines, the user has administrator privileges.
Anybody else have similar errors?

You can still continue to use Documents, the same way as you used to use Notes.
Few differences you will find are that the your notes will now be categorized using folders. They will have security based on the Assigned to user. Other than this, you should be able to use it in the same older fashion without adding an attachment.

Are you using the correct port and IP? Is the user that you are using for connecting added to the manager.conf file? Maybe the port 5038 is blocked? Can you try the following command at command line:
telnet 192.168.1.250 5038from the vtiger system. This should idealy open the asterisk call manager for you.

Hi, Am trialling vtiger 5.1 validation for use as our main crm. However, there doesn’t appear to be an Office plug-in included in your validation version. Is this in the pipeline? (it is essential for our scope)
Secondly the existing Office plug in doesn’t appear to be compatible with Office 2007…is this in the pipeline too?
It would be extremely helpful if you could give me an estimated timeline for delivery, if these two aspects are in the pipeline.

The messages you have posted suggest that the vtiger server connects to the asterisk server perfectly. This is completely different from your earlier message where you have said that you cannot connect to asterisk.
However, if the connection is successful, you should be able to see the phone numbers in vtiger (Accounts, Contacts and Leads module) as links. You can click on these links to make a outgoing call. The code for the outgoing call is in the file AsteriskClass.php. The function transfer() is used for the purpose.
For incoming calls, you can have a look at handleIncomingCalls() function in the AsteriskClient.php file.
These are initial pointers but should get you started. Let me know if you have issues.

Couple questions:
1. Is there somewhere in the Forum that those of us who are trying to work with 5.1 should be posting questions?
2. I cannot get Migration to work in a hosted environment. The limited installation manual provided is mostly screen captures with very, very little accompanying text-based instruction. Questions raised:
a. Does Migration require an separate installation first? Or not? (I think not, but it refuses to recognize the db I just created.)
b. I’ve managed to install a fresh install, quite easily. No luck trying to get the existing db Migrated. Am I missing somethin here (assuming here that Migration requires a new install first.)
I could use a reply to my query here as this has had me dead in the water for almost a week now.
The fact that I can install 5.1 as a fresh install but the Migration route has problems with a new, empty database tells me there’s something in the install script that’s whacky. (A good case could be made that there’s a setting somewhere at my web host that’s causing the problem, but I get the standard “IT Disclaimer” that “it’s not on our end”, blah, blah, blah. (Ever consider that since no IT department in the world has “an end” that the whole, entire process is one, big circle?? Just a thought.)

My kind apologies for having very less information provided in the document.
check if the database name provided is working or will work with older source from which you are trying to migrate.
Also check if the Permissions for the directories and files are given as recommended
Kindly check the below information -
Migration -> Step 4
The Database name that you provide should be a working database with previous version that you select as Previous Installation version.
Or You need to enable the create database option and provide the mysql username and password who is allowed to create database so that migration wizard takes a backup of the database that your old source uses and imports into newly created database.
Then we migrate the database to the current version.

Hi MANNOU,
You should be able to call to any number in vtiger regardless of its presence in the softphone. When you click a number, firstly you should get a call on your softphone and when you pick up you should be connected to the clicked number. We tested with a softphone called x-lite (it’s a freeware as well like zoiper) but any other soft-phone should work fine as well.
I am not sure what might be the problem here. Have you configured your extension in the user preferences (this is different from the asterisk configuration under Settings)?

With new installed system of vTiger 5.1-val1 and customerportal, the password for customerportal user could not be changed after logging into customerportal with automatically generated password.

My Preferences is the same as User Preferences (its just that we call it user prefs in vtiger lingo). Sorry for any inconvinience.
Coming back to your problem, during our testing, we used x-lite as the softophone. Here are the steps you need to follow:
1. Setup x-lite (with the same extension you specified for your user in vtiger)
2. Start the asterisk client.
3. Click on a phone number in asterisk.
4. You should get a popup in vtiger saying a outgoing call is being made (i think you are already getting this)
5. You should get a call on x-lite.
6. When you pick up the call, you should be transfered to the number you have clicked in vtiger.
Please make sure that the format of the phone number in vtiger is right. You can refer to the documentation in this regard.
Let me know if there are any further issues.

I asked my hosting company how come I cannot get the Migration process to work, when the New Install process does. I also gave them the error messages I am still getting and I have posted them below.

The following options are being planned for migration:
1. Migrate existing database, like we did in earlier versions.
2. Create new database, by copying data from production database, use it for migration. Once migration is complete continue with this database. This will avoid the risk involved in loosing the production database.
Following are some issues that were identified in the current migration process:
a. Before proceeding with migration, database dump is taken as a backup -
If existing vtiger database is loaded with too much of data, script is timing out before migration!
b. During migration module sequence numbers are being updated for existing records -
This could make the migration to timeout.
These issues are currently being addressed, which will make the migration smooth in the next build.
Kindly keep us posted with any other migration issue you have noticed.

I’ve used several different MySQL users’ and different login/pw information just to rule various things out, and all of them had ALL of the available privileges selected including the ability to create new databases. I’ve created new users with full permissions, used existing users and double-checked their permissions, nothing works. All attempts give me an error message of some kind.

In the FAQ Module layout editor you can add new blocks but there doesnt seem to be a way of
adding fiels to the block, which defeats the object. Am I missing something?

Migration error still exists with vTigerCRM v5.1. SVN12417 as bellow.
Migrations have been successful until SVN12346, but failed since SVN12347.
Is there any big change in migration process between 12346 and 12347?
I think this may be a clue to the resolution.

We tried installing the new version & installation was perfect. everyting seems to work good, except the popup of events/activities.
Do we need make any changes to the config.inc file to reflect the time zone correctly. by default it has $default_timezone = ‘Asia/Calcutta’;?>, but showing a different time. I suppose the server time.

MIGRATE is broken.
Follow these steps to do a successful migration
- Download vtiger 5.1 and put it in your web folder (let’s call this ‘vtiger51′)
- Copy config.inc.php from your old install to ‘vtiger51′ overwriting the emtpy file there
- Browse to http://YOUR_HOSTNAME/vtiger51/install.php
- You will only see the MIGRATE option
- Set options, hit migrate.
Worked for me.

in IE the recycle bin feature does not work when logged on as admin. When pressing the “Empty Recycle Bin” button, screen goes a little bit white, but nothing happens
In firefox it works with a popup warning: Are you sure, you want to Permanently remove all the deleted records from your database? When clicking Yes, recycle bin becomes empty.

I found that in the install/7createTables.inc.php script an if statemant starting at line 1158 allways will raise an error. I changed the lines 1161 and 1162:

changed into: echo(”Tables Successfully created.\n”);
So the if statemant is now:

one question: I tried for my own very small company (only 4 people including me) 5.0.4 and have to say that vTiger is the best open source crm I have ever seen. But I hoped that in 5.1.0 the steps to have for Products a Reseller and a Manufacturer is changed to a process where I can say I have an organisation with different attributes. E.g. for being a customer, a reseller and a manufacturer. It will be a bit easier for creating and configuring products.
Anyway, I had no more fun working with crm as with vTiger.

First of all I would like to say that I love the work the vtiger team has done. Great Job!!.
We have been patiently waiting for the release of 5.1 but as everyday that goes by it’s making it harder for us not to decide on another crm product. so I have two questions
1) When is the release of 5.1 expected? Are we talking months, or weeks?
2) If we installed 5.1 Validation Build, will there be an upgrade path to the 5.1 release?

This 5.0.1 is beginning to grow up and looks very accomplished.
This comment is probably not suitable for the trac as it is a design issue i think.
You have price books and product bundles added.
These are very useful features, if not a little into the ERP territory ( better to have a smoking hot CRM than a bit of everything)
The issues I noticed are:
1. You can’t add services to a product bundle as you wold in ERP, this makes it not much use to most of us who ould mainly use it to prepare packages for marketing campaigns or for a quote.
2. Pricebooks in my experience are associated with a particular channel, or market , or even campaign.
That is why they are useful.
I fail to se what useful purpose they could have in their current form unless I’m completely missing something.

Its me Deep, again with some more shouting. The reason is that i really feel that you guys have done such a great work with the features set in 5.01 but its all going to waste with prolonged testing [which no doubt is needed, I know].
Sreenivas Kanumuru5.1 is a couple of months away. We haven’t firmed up the time table, but here is the release plan.
- Validation Build 2
- Validation Build 3 (possibly)
- Release Candidate - migration from RC to Final will be supported.
- Final Version

I’m sure, by the time you guys release, all your competitors will have all your super duper features and you’ll be back to square one and again will start planing for a jumbo release.
Can we change our development and release strategy a bit, take 5-10 new features at a time and release it within 3-4 months and don’t let everyone keep giving you this kind of advices!!
I’m sure you know how many potential users are getting defecting each day because they can’t wait for ever and there is no clarity on when they can expect 5.01.
Please think about it, your last release, was more than a year back!!
But if you still want to follow the same path, don’t show anything what is coming in next version, let user implement the current version [at least they will not have any doubts] and you hide the new features from your competitors as well [so that at least there is some good stuff in new release].

We respect your opinion but I feel working without such pressure would definitely yield high quality of work. I’m sure our community members will support us in spreading the word not only on what features we have but how better our collaboration is.
With the framework support made stronger it is certainly posssible to add new features quite easily on top of 5.1.0
Closing the doors on getting advices from all is not a good idea (personally), it will reduce the activeness and put few people down and it is possible to miss something important which could help us all.
Giving clarity on what feature is under developement is certainly helpful in gathering the feedback at earlier stages. If this is closed, we might end of making changes to existing features and release it quite often!

vtiger 5.1.0 validation build2 is scheduled this week. Keep watching the blog for the update.
BUG
When in Accounts Page.
Select a field and click the ‘edit’ link for the field.
(I used the telephone field)
Enter the new data
Click SAVE
The Save Cancel buttons do not disappear and the field remains in Edit mode.
Click CANCEL and refresh the page.
The edit was properly saved but to the user (unless they refresh the page) it appears that the edit did not take place.

utf-8 not enabled.
But i went ahead with the installation.
Now how do i enable utf-8 support?
